Manufacturing & Production

For factories and production teams — cutting, nesting, veneer, CNC and material loss. The tools that decide how much timber leaves the building as product rather than sawdust.

Where the material actually goes

These are the tools that decide the difference between quoted and actual material cost in a production shop.

Panel optimisation and nesting efficiency address the largest single loss: offcut. Kerf loss addresses the one that is invisible per cut and significant per sheet — a 3.2 mm blade through a hundred cuts is a board and a half of timber turned into dust.

Feeds and speeds matter more in timber than in metal for one reason: burn. Too slow and the cutter dwells and scorches the cut, and scorched hardwood is not sandable to invisible. Chip load, not spindle RPM, is the number to hold.

Glue consumption, edge banding and sanding sequence cover consumables and finishing labour — and the sanding sequence is where hours are usually lost, because skipping a grit costs more time in the next one than it saved.
