Nominal figures. Real density varies by grade, batch and moisture content — a moisture-resistant or fire-rated board sits at the top of its range. Weigh a sample where the figure matters for lifting or rack loading.
How the calculation works
The three panel dimensions are multiplied together to give the volume of one sheet in cubic metres. That volume is multiplied by the density to give the weight of one sheet, and by the number of sheets for the stack. Weight per square metre is just thickness times density, because the length and width cancel out.

Limitations of this calculation
Estimates weight from nominal dimensions and a single assumed density. It does not account for moisture variation between storage conditions, density gradients through the board thickness, coatings, edge banding, embedded hardware, or manufacturing tolerance on sheet size.
Do not use this for Lifting equipment certification, crane load charts, or rack capacity sign-off. Confirm rack ratings with the rack manufacturer.

Worked example
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming all MDF is the same density. Standard, light and HDF differ by hundreds of kg per cubic metre.
- Forgetting sheet weight when planning a delivery crew. A single 25 mm full sheet is a genuine two-person lift.
- Using MDF weight tables for moisture-resistant board. MR board is usually a little denser.
